The TSURUMI 50PUMA2.15S is the automatic version of Tsurumi's PU series (officially classed as a vortex resin sewage pump, VANCS series). It has a 0.15 kW 2-pole single-phase motor and a built-in float switch, so it starts automatically when the water rises and stops when it falls to the set low level. Built from glass-fibre-reinforced resin and 304 stainless steel, the pump is light and corrosion-resistant, and its vortex resin impeller passes solids up to 35 mm. It suits wastewater from homes, restaurants and hotels, and rain or seepage water in basement sumps.
Selection note: "50PUMA2.15S" is the supply model code we use. In Tsurumi's official catalogue, the PU series 0.15 kW single-phase automatic model is listed as 40PUA2.15S (40 mm discharge, with a 50 mm option). Please check the pump nameplate for the exact model, discharge size, voltage and frequency. For small flows with fine solids, consider the 32 mm OMA5 (automatic). For higher heads, consider the 0.75 kW 50PNI2.75S.
Key features
- Built-in float switch for automatic operation: the pump starts at the set high level and stops at the set low level, with no one needed on site. Tsurumi states that automatic and standard models have identical performance.
- Vortex resin impeller: a semi-vortex impeller in glass-fibre-reinforced resin (PPO-GF) with a 35 mm solids passage. Tsurumi describes the vortex mechanism as "practically unchokable" in sewage pumping; it resists wear from abrasive particles and holds its original performance for longer.
- Resin and 304 stainless steel: each part uses a glass-fibre-reinforced resin chosen for its job, with a 304 stainless steel motor frame and a 316 stainless steel shaft, giving a light, corrosion-resistant pump.
- Dual inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide faces running in an oil chamber, with Tsurumi's original Oil Lifter, which keeps the seals lubricated and cooled even when the oil level drops to one third of normal.
- Food-grade liquid paraffin lubricant: the oil chamber uses liquid paraffin (ISO VG32), which Tsurumi says makes the pump suitable for koi ponds, fish farms and waterfalls.
- Built-in miniature thermal protector (MTP): cuts power automatically on overheating or dry running.
- Anti-wicking cable entry: limits water creeping along the cable cores into the motor if the cable sheath is damaged.
- Air release valve: fitted in the pump casing to help vent trapped air.

Performance
When selecting a pump, maximum head is the head at near-zero flow and maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus pipe friction loss) rises. Tsurumi's official catalogue gives the 50 Hz performance of the PU 0.15 kW models as a curve only, without tabulated maximum head or capacity figures. Select the pump from the official 50 Hz curve using your site's total head, or contact us for help. Because 50 Hz and 60 Hz versions perform differently, check that the nameplate frequency matches your supply.

Optional accessories
- TOK4-P guide rail fitting (glass-fibre-reinforced resin): officially for PU series 0.15–0.75 kW. It includes a duckfoot bend, guide hook, guide support with bolts and nuts, and a 4 m lifting chain with shackles; the guide pipe is not supplied.
- Discharge pipework: the threaded oval flange takes threaded pipe or a hose coupling.
Safety and installation
- Before connecting, check that the nameplate voltage and frequency match your supply. North American 60 Hz versions differ from 50 Hz versions.
- Earth the pump and connect it through an RCD/ELCB. Electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations.
- Lift and lower the pump by its handle. Never lift, lower or drag it by the power cable.
- Leave enough room for the float switch to rise and fall freely with the water level, clear of the sump wall, pipework and debris.
- On the official standard model the continuous running water level is 315 mm and the lowest running water level is 100 mm; install the automatic unit to suit the float switch's actual start and stop levels. Do not run the pump dry for long periods.
- The built-in thermal protector resets automatically once the motor cools, and the float switch can also start the pump at any time. Always isolate the power before inspection or servicing.
- For sewage and wastewater at 0–40 °C and pH 4–10 only, with a maximum submersion depth of 20 m. Do not use it for flammable or explosive liquids, chemicals, hot water or seawater, or for sludge or dense slurry.
- Although the lubricant is food-grade liquid paraffin, this is a sewage pump and must not be used for drinking water.
- If the cable sheath is damaged, stop using the pump and replace the cable. The anti-wicking cable entry limits water ingress but is not a repair.
Wear parts and routine checks
- Parts to check regularly: impeller, mechanical seals, oil-chamber lubricant, cable and float switch.
- Check the oil level and condition regularly. The Oil Lifter keeps the seals lubricated down to one third of the normal oil level, but the oil must still be topped up or changed on schedule. If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
- Clear debris from the suction inlet and the sump regularly, and check that the float switch moves freely and starts and stops the pump correctly.
