The TSURUMI OMA5 is the automatic model in Tsurumi's OM series of vortex resin sewage pumps (VANCS series, catalogued as "Submersible Wastewater Pumps (Economic)"). It has a 32 mm discharge, a 0.15 kW single-phase 2-pole motor and a built-in cylindrical float switch: the pump starts when the water rises to a preset level, keeps running while the float stays on, stops at a preset low level and repeats the cycle without supervision. Built from glass-fibre-reinforced resins and 304 stainless steel, it weighs only 5.3 kg dry (excluding cable) and is designed for household wastewater and liquids carrying small solids, with a 10 mm solids passage.

Selection note: the OMA5 and the OM5 have identical performance. The only difference is that the OMA5 has a built-in float switch for automatic operation, while the OM5 is the standard (manual) model and needs an external float switch or control panel to run automatically. The OMA5 is a sewage pump, not a slurry pump, so it is not suitable for settled sludge, sand slurry or large solids. For more head and flow, consider the 50PNI2.75S (50 mm, 0.75 kW).

Key features

Built-in miniature thermal protector (MTP): cuts power on overheating or dry-running.
Anti-wicking cable entry and air release valve: the cable entry limits water creeping along the cable cores into the motor if the sheath is damaged, and the air release valve in the casing helps vent trapped air.

Performance

At 50 Hz, the 7.5 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 185 L/min (about 11.1 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus pipe or hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. The standard OM5 and the automatic OMA5 have identical performance.

Optional accessories

The OMA5 already has a built-in float switch, so no external float switch is needed.
The discharge is a threaded flange; fit a matching threaded pipe or hose coupling to suit the site.
Residual-current device (RCD/ELCB) for the supply circuit.

Safety and installation

Before connecting, check that the voltage and frequency on the nameplate match the site supply.
Earth the pump and connect it through a residual-current device. Electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations.
Use the handle to lift or position the pump. Never lift or drag it by the power cable.
Make sure the float switch can move up and down freely, clear of the pit wall, debris and the cable.
Do not run the pump dry for long periods. After the built-in thermal protector trips on overheating or dry-running, it resets automatically once the motor cools, so the pump may restart without warning. Always isolate the power before inspection or servicing.
Do not pump flammable or explosive liquids, liquids above 40 °C or liquids outside pH 4–10. The pump is not designed for seawater and must not be used for drinking water. Maximum submersion depth is 20 m.
If the cable sheath is damaged, stop using the pump and replace the cable.

Wear parts and routine checks

Main wear parts: impeller, mechanical seals and float switch.
Check the liquid paraffin in the oil chamber regularly. The Oil Lifter keeps the seals lubricated when the oil level is low, but the normal oil level must still be maintained. If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
Regularly clear debris from around the suction at the base of the pump and check that the float switch operates correctly.
