The TSURUMI OM5 is the economic submersible pump in Tsurumi's OM series (part of the VANCS range, officially classed as a vortex resin sewage pump). It has a 32 mm discharge and a 0.15 kW 2-pole single-phase motor. A semi-vortex glass-fibre-reinforced resin impeller and resin casing, combined with a 304 stainless steel motor frame, keep it light and corrosion-resistant. It is designed for household wastewater, rainwater and seepage in basements, and liquids carrying small solids up to 10 mm.
Selection note: the OM5 is the standard (manual) model and has no float switch. Run it manually, or add an external float switch or control panel for automatic operation. For a built-in float that starts and stops the pump by water level, choose the automatic OMA5, which has identical performance. For more head and flow, consider the 50 mm 50PNI2.75S. The OM5 is a sewage pump, not a slurry pump, and is not suitable for sludge, sand slurry or dense settled solids.
Key features
- Semi-vortex resin impeller: glass-fibre-reinforced resin (PPO-GF) resists wear from abrasive particles and holds its original performance for longer. The moderate solids passage handles solids up to 10 mm.
- Resin body with stainless steel: PPO-GF upper casing and ABS glass-fibre-reinforced resin lower casing, a 304 stainless steel motor frame and a 316 stainless steel shaft, for a light, corrosion-resistant pump.
- Dual inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces running in an oil chamber, with Tsurumi's original Oil Lifter, which keeps the seal faces lubricated and cooled down to about 1/3 of the normal oil level.
- Food-grade lubricant: the oil chamber is filled with food-grade liquid paraffin (ISO VG32), which is safe for fish in koi ponds, fish farms and waterfalls.
- Built-in miniature thermal protector (MTP): detects excess motor heat and protects the pump against overheating and dry running.
- Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping into the motor by capillary action if the cable sheath is damaged or the cable end is submerged.
- Air release valve: fitted in the pump casing to prevent air lock.
- Light and compact: just 5.1 kg dry (excluding cable), small enough for tight spaces such as septic tanks and kitchen wastewater traps.

Performance
The 7.5 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 185 L/min (about 11.1 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the 50 Hz performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus pipe or hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. For higher heads, consider the 50PNI2.75S (15.7 m maximum head).

Optional accessories
- External float switch or level control panel, to start and stop the OM5 automatically by water level. Ask the Tsurumi Hong Kong agent for the part numbers that apply in Hong Kong.
- Discharge pipe: the OM5 has a threaded flange discharge for threaded pipe or hose couplings.
The OM series does not have a back pull-out design, and Tsurumi does not list it for the TOK guide-rail fitting.
Safety and installation
- Before connecting, check that the voltage and frequency on the nameplate match the site supply.
- Earth the pump and connect it through an RCD/ELCB. Electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations.
- Use the handle to lift or place the pump. Never pull, lift or drag it by the power cable.
- Do not run the pump dry for long periods. The built-in thermal protector trips on overheating or dry running and resets automatically once the motor cools, so the pump may restart without warning. Always isolate the power before inspection or servicing.
- For continuous running, keep the water level at 270 mm or above. The lowest running water level is 60 mm.
- Use only with liquids at 0–40 °C and pH 4–10, at up to 20 m submersion. Do not pump flammable or explosive liquids, chemicals or solvents, hot water or seawater.
- This is a sewage pump. Although the lubricant is food-grade liquid paraffin, do not use it for drinking water.
Wear parts and routine checks
- Check the oil level and condition in the oil chamber regularly. The Oil Lifter keeps the seals lubricated at low oil levels, but the oil still needs routine maintenance. If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the mechanical seals inspected promptly.
- Inspect the cable sheath regularly. If it is damaged, stop using the pump and replace the cable; the anti-wicking cable entry is not a substitute for repair.
- Keep the suction area clear of debris so flow is not reduced.
