The TSURUMI HSD2.55S is a portable slurry pump from Tsurumi's HS series (officially classed under submersible pumps > slurry pumps for construction). It has a 50 mm (2-inch) discharge and a 0.55 kW single-phase 2-pole motor. This compact submersible agitator pump has a high-chrome cast iron agitator that helps draw in settled matter such as mud. With a dry weight of 14 kg and needing only a single-phase supply, it is practical for pumping sandy, muddy water on construction sites and smaller works. Wear-prone parts are made of abrasion-resistant material, which Tsurumi says gives durability equivalent to three-phase slurry pumps.

Selection note: the HSD2.55S is the only pump in the HS series built for settled sand and mud, with both impeller and agitator in high-chrome cast iron. For general clear-water drainage, the lighter HS2.4S or the higher-head HS2.75S portable dewatering pumps are a better fit; to pump down to a very low residual water level, choose the HSR2.4S residue dewatering pump. The HSD2.55S is not a sewage pump and is not intended for sewage or liquids containing fibrous solids. For 110V site supplies, see the HSD2.55S 110V version.

Key features

High-chrome cast iron agitator: mounted on the shaft, it helps draw in settled matter such as mud and prevents the air lock that vortex and semi-vortex pumps are prone to.
High-chrome semi-vortex impeller: abrasion-resistant for sandy duty, passing solids up to 9 mm.
Side discharge with spiral casing: the external side discharge and spiral pump casing let solids enter and pass through more smoothly.
Double inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces running in an oil chamber, with Tsurumi's Oil Lifter keeping the seal faces lubricated and cooled even when the oil drops to one third of the normal level. A nitrile rubber (NBR) V-ring acts as a dust seal.
Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on overheating or overcurrent.
Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping into the motor by capillary action if the cable sheath is damaged or the cable end is submerged, and prevents condensation inside the motor. A cable clip guards against tugging.
Ductile iron casing and resin stand: a tough pump casing, with a stand that prevents scratching of floors.

Performance

The 13.2 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 220 L/min (about 13.2 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises, and it is also lower when pumping sandy or muddy liquid than with clear water. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head.

Safety and installation

Check that the nameplate voltage matches your supply and connect to an earthed single-phase 50 Hz supply; an outlet with earth-leakage (RCD) protection is recommended. Electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations.
For continuous running, keep the water level at 105 mm or above. The built-in thermal protector is a safeguard only; do not run the pump dry for long periods.
Lift and lower the pump by its handle, never by the power cable. A damaged cable must be repaired or replaced before use.
Stand the pump on firm ground or a platform so it does not sink into the silt, while leaving the agitator able to reach the settled material.
Do not use in flammable or explosive atmospheres, and do not pump flammable, corrosive or hot liquids. The standard model is not designed for seawater.

Wear parts and routine checks

Main wear parts: impeller, agitator, mechanical seals and V-ring. With long running in sandy water, the impeller and agitator gradually wear and flow drops.
Always isolate the power before inspection or servicing. Check and change the seal oil (turbine oil ISO VG32, 160 ml) regularly; if the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
