The TSURUMI HSZ2.4S is the automatic version of Tsurumi's HS series portable dewatering pump (officially classed under submersible pumps > portable dewatering pumps (automatic)). It has a 50 mm (2-inch) discharge and a 0.4 kW single-phase 2-pole motor. A single float switch controls operation: the pump starts when the water rises to a preset level and stops when it drops to the preset level, so it can run unattended in site sumps, basements and flood-prone areas. At 11.3 kg dry weight it is easy for one person to carry, and its wear-prone parts are made of abrasion-resistant material, which Tsurumi says gives durability on par with three-phase drainage pumps.

Selection note: the HSZ2.4S has the same performance as the manually operated HS2.4S; the only difference is the fitted float switch for automatic on/off. It is a dewatering pump, not a slurry pump, and is not intended for sewage or liquids containing fibrous solids. For settled sand and mud, choose the HSD2.55S slurry pump; to pump down to a very low residual water level, choose the HSR2.4S residue dewatering pump. Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping into the motor by capillary action if the cable sheath is damaged or the cable end is submerged, and prevents condensation inside the motor. A cable clip guards against tugging.
Resin stand: prevents scratching of floors.

Performance

The 12 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 200 L/min (about 12 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. For more head or flow, consider the automatic HSZ2.75S (18 m) or HSZ3.75S (80 mm discharge).

Safety and installation

Check that the nameplate voltage matches your supply and connect to an earthed single-phase 50 Hz supply; an outlet with earth-leakage (RCD) protection is recommended. Electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations.
Allow at least 340 mm of space (F) when installing, and make sure the float can move freely without catching on the cable, hose or pit wall.
For continuous running, keep the water level at 90 mm or above. The built-in thermal protector is a safeguard only; do not run the pump dry for long periods.
Lift and lower the pump by its handle, never by the power cable. A damaged cable must be repaired or replaced before use.
Stand the pump on firm ground or a platform so it does not sink into silt.
Do not use in flammable or explosive atmospheres, and do not pump flammable, corrosive or hot liquids. The standard model is not designed for seawater.

Wear parts and routine checks

Main wear parts: impeller, agitator and mechanical seals. With long running in sandy water, the impeller gradually wears and flow drops.
Always isolate the power before inspection or servicing. Check regularly that the float switch starts and stops the pump correctly, and clear any debris caught around the float.
Check and change the seal oil (turbine oil ISO VG32, 160 ml) regularly; if the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
