The TSURUMI HS2.4S is a portable dewatering pump from Tsurumi's HS series (officially classed under submersible pumps > portable dewatering pumps). It has a 50 mm (2-inch) discharge and a 0.4 kW single-phase 2-pole motor. With a dry weight of 11.3 kg it is light and portable, making it a practical choice for everyday and temporary drainage of water containing solids on construction sites, in basements and during flooding. Wear-prone parts are made of abrasion-resistant material, which Tsurumi says gives durability on par with three-phase drainage pumps.

Selection note: the HS2.4S is the standard, manually operated dewatering pump. It is not a slurry pump and is not intended for sewage or liquids containing fibrous solids. For automatic on/off operation, choose the HSZ2.4S with float switch; for settled sand and mud, choose the HSD2.55S slurry pump; to pump down to a very low residual water level, choose the HSR2.4S residue dewatering pump. Key features

Wear-resistant semi-vortex impeller: urethane rubber impeller that passes solids up to 7 mm.
Shaft-mounted agitator prevents air lock: a sintered-alloy agitator on the shaft stops the air lock that vortex and semi-vortex pumps are prone to.
Side discharge with spiral casing: the external side discharge and spiral pump casing let solids enter and pass through more smoothly.
Double inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces running in an oil chamber, with Tsurumi's Oil Lifter keeping the seal faces lubricated and cooled even when the oil drops to one third of the normal level.
Built-in miniature thermal protector (MTP): detects motor overheating and protects against overheating and dry running.
Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping into the motor by capillary action if the cable sheath is damaged or the cable end is submerged, and prevents condensation inside the motor. A cable clip guards against tugging.
Resin stand: prevents scratching of floors.

Performance

The 12 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 200 L/min (about 12 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. For more head or flow, consider the HS2.75S (18 m) or the HS3.75S (80 mm discharge).

Safety and installation

Check that the nameplate voltage matches your supply and connect to an earthed single-phase 50 Hz supply; an outlet with earth-leakage (RCD) protection is recommended. Electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations.
For continuous running, keep the water level at 90 mm or above. The built-in thermal protector is a safeguard only; do not run the pump dry for long periods.
Lift and lower the pump by its handle, never by the power cable. A damaged cable must be repaired or replaced before use.
Stand the pump on firm ground or a platform so it does not sink into silt.
Do not use in flammable or explosive atmospheres, and do not pump flammable, corrosive or hot liquids. The standard model is not designed for seawater.

Wear parts and routine checks

Main wear parts: impeller, agitator and mechanical seals. With long running in sandy water, the impeller gradually wears and flow drops.
Always isolate the power before inspection or servicing. Check and change the seal oil (turbine oil ISO VG32, 160 ml) regularly; if the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
