The TSURUMI KTZ21.5 is a three-phase submersible dewatering pump from Tsurumi's KTZ series (officially classed as a general construction pump). It has a 50 mm (2-inch) discharge and a 1.5 kW 2-pole motor, one of the two lowest-output models in the KTZ range (alongside the KTZ31.5). A cast-iron body and a semi-open high-chromium cast-iron impeller let it handle gritty, muddy water on construction sites, in quarries and in mines. The slim body weighs 34 kg dry (excluding cable), so it is easy to carry and fits into tight sumps.

Selection note: the KTZ21.5 is a non-automatic pump with no built-in level control. For automatic start and stop, choose the electrode-controlled KTZE21.5. The KTZ is also not a slurry pump and is not suitable for settled sludge or dense sand slurry; for that duty, choose a KTD-series pump with an agitator, such as the KTD222. The KTZ31.5 has the same 1.5 kW output with an 80 mm discharge, giving more flow but less head.

Key features

Top-discharge, side-flow design: the motor stays cooled even when it runs exposed to air, and the slim body fits confined spaces. Keep at least 120 mm of water for continuous running.
Multi-directional hose coupling: the discharge can be set vertical or inclined, so the hose does not fold or kink.
High-chromium cast-iron semi-open impeller: resists wear from abrasive particles; the suction cover is ductile cast iron.
Dual inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces housed in the oil chamber, away from abrasion and corrosion. Tsurumi's Oil Lifter keeps the seals lubricated and cooled even when the oil drops to about one third of the normal level.
Oil seal (dust seal): an NBR oil seal, fitted on models of 5.5 kW and below, gives the mechanical seals extra protection.
Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on overheating or overcurrent.
Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping into the motor by capillary action if the cable sheath is damaged, with a cable clip to resist pulling.
Quench-hardened shaft: the 420 stainless steel shaft is hardened where it contacts particles.

Performance

The 21.5 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 430 L/min (about 25.8 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. These figures are from Tsurumi Europe's three-phase 400 V 50 Hz data. For more head with the same 50 mm discharge, consider the KTZ22.2 (26 m) or KTZ23.7 (36.5 m).

Float switch with a motor starter or control panel for unattended automatic on/off. The KTZ21.5 has no built-in level control, and three-phase pumps must be connected through a control panel.
Motor overload protector or control panel with phase-failure protection, set to the nameplate rated current.

Safety and installation

Three-phase supply only. Installation and wiring must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with proper earthing and a motor starter that provides overload and phase protection.
Check the voltage and current on the nameplate before connecting. After connection, check the rotation direction; if it is wrong, have an electrician swap two phases.
If the built-in thermal protector trips, find the cause of the overheating or overcurrent before running the pump again. Always isolate and lock out the power before inspection or servicing.
Lift and lower the pump by its handle with a chain or rope. Never lift it by the power cable, and protect the cable from pulling or cutting.
Keep the water level at or above 120 mm (W1) for continuous running. Use a strainer and do not let the pump get buried in silt; expect faster wear in abrasive or corrosive service.
The standard model is not seawater-resistant. Tsurumi's Seawater-Resistant Kit applies only to specified models such as the KTZ23.7, KTZ33.7, KTZ43.7, KTZ411 and KTZ611. Do not use the pump with flammable or explosive liquids or atmospheres, for drinking water, or with liquids outside 0–40 °C or pH 5–9.

Wear parts and routine checks

Main wear parts: impeller, suction cover, mechanical seals and oil seal. With long running in sandy water, the impeller and suction cover gradually wear and flow drops.
Check the oil in the oil chamber regularly (turbine oil ISO VG32, 740 ml). If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
