The TSURUMI KTD22.2 is a submersible, heavy-duty cast-iron slurry pump with agitator from Tsurumi's KTD series (officially classed as a slurry pump). It has a 50 mm (2-inch) discharge and a 2.2 kW two-pole three-phase motor. The KTD series is built on the KTZ series but has more motor shaft power in reserve, so it can cope with muddy water of higher specific gravity. A ductile-iron agitator on the shaft creates a downward current that stirs up settled solids and, together with a dedicated strainer, helps the pump draw in and transfer bentonite slurry, slime, mud and water with a high sand content. The impeller and suction cover are made of wear-resistant materials, and the pump passes solids up to 10 mm.
Selection note: the KTD22.2 is a slurry pump, not a general site dewatering pump. If you only need to remove site water carrying a little sand and silt, the KTZ22.2 general construction pump has the same 50 mm discharge and 2.2 kW motor without the agitator. The KTD22.2 is three-phase only and has no float-operated automatic mode. Its solids passage is 10 mm, so it is not suitable for gravel or coarse aggregate.
Key features
- Agitating mechanism: a ductile-iron agitator mounted on the shaft works with a dedicated strainer to lift settled sediment so it is drawn into the pump.
- Wear-resistant hydraulics: semi-open high-chromium cast-iron impeller and ductile-iron suction cover; shaft surfaces in contact with particles are quench-hardened.
- Top-discharge, side-flow design: the built-in semi-jacket cooling keeps the motor cooled even when it runs exposed to air, and the slim body fits confined spaces.
- Dual inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces on both upper and lower seals, running in an oil chamber with Tsurumi's Oil Lifter. An NBR lip seal acts as a dust seal to protect the mechanical seal from abrasive particles.
- Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on overheating or overcurrent.
- Anti-wicking cable entry: with strain relief and a cable clip, limiting water creeping along the cable cores into the motor.
- Continuous-duty dry motor: two-pole induction motor, insulation class F, IP68, direct-on-line (DOL) starting.
Applications
- Foundation and piling works: transferring or draining bentonite slurry
- Construction sites: pumping settled silt, muddy water and water with a high sand content
- Mines and quarries: transferring sandy water and slurry
Suitable liquids: water containing sand, silt, mud or slurry at 0–40 °C. Not for seawater, corrosive or chemical liquids, oils, solvents or flammable liquids.
Performance
On Tsurumi's official 50 Hz performance curve, the KTD22.2 reaches a maximum head of about 21.5 m, which is the head at near-zero flow. Its maximum capacity of about 0.55 m³/min (about 550 L/min) is the end point of the curve, at roughly 3 m of head. Both values are read from the official curve rather than taken from a specification table, and they never occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises, and it is also lower when pumping heavier slurry than clean water. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. For more flow, consider the 80 mm KTD33.7.

Optional accessories
- Male threaded coupling (in place of the standard hose coupling).
- High-temperature liquid version (up to 60 °C), available as a special specification to order.
- 50 mm lay-flat or suction-rated hose sized to the discharge.
- Three-phase DOL starter or control panel with overload and earth-leakage protection, set to the nameplate rated current (general installation practice, not a Tsurumi-supplied accessory).
Safety and installation
- Use a three-phase supply that matches the nameplate voltage only. Electrical connection must be made by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with the pump earthed through the cable's earth conductor and protected by an earth-leakage device.
- Check the direction of rotation after connection. Wrong rotation noticeably reduces head and flow; have an electrician swap two phases to correct it.
- The built-in thermal protector cuts the motor on overheating or overcurrent. If it trips, isolate the power, find and fix the cause (such as a blocked inlet or overly thick slurry) and let the motor cool before restarting.
- Lift and lower the pump by its handle with a rope or chain. Never lift or drag it by the power cable, and protect the cable from strain and damage.
- For continuous running, keep the water at or above the continuous running water level (C.W.L.) shown on the official drawing and avoid prolonged dry running. The standard model is limited to liquids at 0–40 °C and a submersion depth of 25 m.
- Isolate the power before inspecting, cleaning the strainer or agitator, or changing the oil; the agitator and impeller turn with the shaft.
- Not for flammable or explosive atmospheres or liquids, and not for drinking water or food use.
Wear parts and routine checks
- Main wear parts: impeller, suction cover, agitator, strainer, mechanical seals and oil seal. Long periods of pumping slurry or sandy water gradually wear the hydraulic parts and reduce flow.
- Check the oil in the oil chamber regularly. Milky or cloudy oil suggests seal wear; have the seals inspected promptly and refill with 740 ml of ISO VG32 turbine oil.
- Check the cable sheath and cable entry regularly for damage.
