The TSURUMI KTZ22.2 is a three-phase submersible dewatering pump from Tsurumi's KTZ series (officially classed as a general construction pump). It has a 50 mm (2-inch) discharge and a 2.2 kW 2-pole motor. KTZ is Tsurumi's flagship dewatering line: a cast iron body with a high-chromium cast iron impeller, built for construction sites, quarries and mines, and for site water carrying a small amount of sand and silt (up to 10% dry matter, pH 5–9, solids up to 8.5 mm).

Selection note: the KTZ22.2 is a non-automatic pump with no built-in float or electrode level control. For automatic on/off by water level, choose the KTZE22.2 automatic version, or add a float switch and control panel. The KTZ32.2 has the same 2.2 kW motor with an 80 mm discharge, giving more flow at lower head. KTZ pumps are dewatering pumps, not slurry pumps, and are not suitable for settled sludge or dense sand slurry.

Key features

Top-discharge, side-flow design: the motor stays cooled even when it runs exposed to air, and the slim body fits confined spaces. Keep at least 120 mm of water (W1) for continuous running and do not run it dry for long periods.
Multi-directional hose coupling: the discharge can be set vertical or inclined, so the hose does not fold or kink.
Semi-open high-chromium cast iron impeller: resists wear from abrasive particles in sandy water.
Double inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces housed in the oil chamber, isolated from abrasion and corrosion. Tsurumi's Oil Lifter keeps the seals lubricated and cooled even when the oil drops to about one third of the normal level. An NBR oil seal acts as a dust seal.
Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on excessive heat or overcurrent.
Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping into the motor by capillary action if the cable sheath is damaged. A cable clip protects against pulling.
420 stainless steel shaft: quench-hardened where it is exposed to particles.

Performance

The 26 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 500 L/min (about 30 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. These figures come from Tsurumi Europe's 400 V / 50 Hz data; the curve differs on a 60 Hz supply. For more head, consider the KTZ23.7 (36.5 m); for more flow, consider the KTZ32.2 (800 L/min).

Float switch and control panel: the KTZ22.2 has no built-in level control, and a three-phase pump must be connected through a control panel or starter with overload and phase-loss protection.
Motor overload protector, set to the nameplate rated current.
For automatic operation by water level, choose the KTZE22.2 automatic version instead.

Safety and installation

Lift the pump by its handle with a chain or rope. Never lift it by the cable or the hose, and protect the cable from pulling or cutting.
Electrical connection must be made by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with proper earthing, earth-leakage protection and a starter with overload and phase-loss protection. Check the nameplate voltage and current before connecting.
Check the rotation direction before first use. If it turns the wrong way, have an electrician swap two phases.
If the built-in thermal protector trips, find the cause of the overheating or overcurrent first. Always isolate and lock out the power before inspection or servicing.
Keep at least 120 mm of water for continuous running. Stand the pump on a firm or raised base so it does not sink into silt.
The standard model is not seawater-resistant, and the KTZ22.2 is not on Tsurumi's official list of models for the Seawater-Resistant Kit. For seawater duty, choose the KTZ23.7 seawater-resistant version.
The pump is not explosion-proof. Do not use it for flammable liquids or in explosive atmospheres, or for liquids outside pH 5–9, above 40 °C, or for drinking water.

Wear parts and routine checks

Main wear parts: impeller, suction cover, mechanical seals and oil seal. With long running in sandy water, the impeller and suction cover gradually wear and flow drops.
Regularly check the oil in the oil chamber (turbine oil ISO VG32, 740 ml). If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
