The TSURUMI KTZ32.2 is a submersible dewatering pump from Tsurumi's flagship KTZ series (officially classed as a general construction pump). It has an 80 mm (3-inch) discharge and a 2.2 kW 2-pole three-phase motor. With a grey cast-iron body and a semi-open high-chrome cast-iron impeller, it is a general-purpose muddy-water pump for construction sites, basements, tunnels and mines, removing site water and seepage that carries a small amount of sand and silt (up to 10% dry matter, pH 5–9, solids up to 8.5 mm).

Selection note: the KTZ32.2 is a non-automatic pump with no built-in level control. Run it with a float switch and control panel, or switch it manually. For automatic level-controlled operation, choose the KTZE32.2, the same-size automatic model with built-in electrode control. The KTZ32.2 is also not a slurry pump: it has no agitator and is not suitable for settled sludge or dense sand slurry. For that duty, choose Tsurumi's KTD series, which has an agitator.

Key features

Top-discharge, side-flow design: the motor stays cooled even when it runs exposed to air, and the slim body fits into narrow pits. Keep at least 120 mm of water (W1) for continuous running and do not run it dry for long periods.
Multi-directional hose coupling: the discharge can be set vertical or inclined, so the hose does not kink.
High-chrome cast-iron semi-open impeller: resists wear from sandy site water.
Double inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces housed in the oil chamber, isolated from abrasion and corrosion. Tsurumi's Oil Lifter keeps the seals lubricated and cooled down to one third of the normal oil level. An NBR oil seal acts as a dust seal.
Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on overheating or overcurrent.
Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping into the motor by capillary action if the cable sheath is damaged. A cable clip protects against pulling.
Hardened shaft: the 420 stainless steel shaft is quench-hardened where it contacts particles.

Performance

The 20.4 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 800 L/min (about 48 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises, so select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. These figures are from Tsurumi Europe's three-phase 400 V 50 Hz data. For more head or flow at the same 80 mm discharge, consider the KTZ33.7 (29 m) or KTZ35.5 (32 m).

Optional accessories

Motor starter or control panel with overload and phase-loss protection, set to the nameplate rated current.
For built-in automatic operation, choose the KTZE32.2 instead.

Safety and installation

Lift and lower the pump by its handle with a chain or rope. Never lift it by the power cable, and protect the cable from pulling or cutting.
Installation and wiring must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with proper earthing. Check the voltage and current on the nameplate before connecting.
Confirm the rotation direction after connection before putting the pump into service.
If the built-in thermal protector trips on overheating or overcurrent, find the cause before running again. Always isolate and lock out the power before inspection or servicing.
Use a strainer and stand the pump on a firm base so it does not sink into silt.
The standard pump is not seawater-resistant, and Tsurumi's seawater-resistant kit is not offered for the KTZ32.2. Do not use it for flammable or explosive liquids or atmospheres, liquids above 40 °C, or liquids outside pH 5–9.

Wear parts and routine checks

Main wear parts: impeller, suction cover, mechanical seals and oil seal. With long running in sandy water, the impeller and suction cover gradually wear and flow drops.
Regularly check the oil condition and level in the oil chamber (turbine oil ISO VG32, 740 ml). If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
