The TSURUMI KTZE32.2 is an automatic submersible dewatering pump from Tsurumi's KTZE series (officially classed as a general construction pump, automatic operation type). It has an 80 mm (3-inch) discharge and a 2.2 kW 2-pole three-phase motor. A built-in electrode level sensor and relay start the pump when water reaches the probe and stop it once the water has been drawn down, so no float switch or separate level controller is needed. It suits unattended drainage on construction sites, foundation works and storm or flood water.
The casing and motor frame are grey cast iron, with a semi-open high-chromium cast iron impeller and a ductile iron suction cover. It handles stormwater, groundwater, wash water and sand-carrying water (liquid temperature 0–40 °C, solids up to 8.5 mm). On Tsurumi Europe 400 V 50 Hz data, maximum head is 20.5 m and maximum capacity is about 795 L/min.
Selection note: the KTZE32.2 is the automatic version of the KTZ32.2. Both have the same discharge size and motor output; the KTZE adds built-in electrode control. If you do not need automatic start/stop, the non-automatic KTZ32.2 is the alternative. The KTZE series is a dewatering pump, not a slurry pump: it has no agitator and is not suitable for bentonite, settled sludge or desilting. The standard model is not seawater-resistant.
Key features
- Electrode automatic operation: the electrode probe and relay unit are built into the pump, so no float switch or external level controller is required. When water touches the probe, current flows between the probe and the pump body and the pump starts. Once the water falls below the probe, a built-in timer keeps the pump running for about 1 minute before stopping; if water touches the probe again during that time, it runs for another minute. This prevents dry running and stops the pump chattering on a turbulent water surface.
- Lower power use: up to 40% less power consumption than non-automatic pumps, according to Tsurumi's comparison.
- Top-discharge, side-flow design: the motor stays cooled even when exposed to air, and the pump body stays slim.
- Multi-directional hose coupling: the discharge can be set vertical or inclined to stop the hose kinking.
- Wear-resistant hydraulics: semi-open high-chromium cast iron impeller with a ductile iron suction cover; 420 stainless steel shaft, quenched where it contacts particles in the liquid.
- Dual inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide upper and lower faces (SiC + SiC) running in an oil chamber, with Tsurumi's Oil Lifter keeping the seal faces lubricated and cooled down to about one third of the normal oil level. An NBR oil seal acts as a dust seal to protect the mechanical seals from abrasive particles.
- Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on overheating or overcurrent.
- Anti-wicking cable entry and cable clip: stops water creeping along the cable into the motor by capillary action if the cable is damaged or its end is submerged.

Suitable liquids are stormwater, groundwater, wash water and sand-carrying water at 0–40 °C, with solids up to 8.5 mm and a maximum submergence depth of 25 m.
Performance
The 20.5 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the maximum capacity of about 795 L/min (794.9 L/min, about 47.7 m³/h) is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises, so select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. These are Tsurumi Europe 400 V 50 Hz figures; Tsurumi UK lists the same model at about 20 m and 800 L/min. For more head, consider the 80 mm KTZE33.7 (28.9 m); for more flow, consider the 100 mm KTZE43.7 (about 1,432 L/min).

Optional accessories
- Multi-directional male threaded coupling
- Extension probe: a coil-spring probe that can be cut to length to lower the starting water level (Tsurumi UK states the on level drops by about another 90 mm).
- Electrode probe cover: structural steel, fitted on site, protects the electrode probe from impacts.
- Factory options (not standard, made to order): seawater-resistant kit (galvanic anode and special impeller), high-temperature version for liquids up to 80 °C, and high-voltage version (380–1000 V).
Safety and installation
- Simple installation: connect the pump to the power supply and it runs automatically on water level. Raise the pump on blocks to set the starting level; several pumps can be placed at different heights for staged running.
- Electrical connection must be made by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with a proper earth and short-circuit, overload and earth-leakage protection. The built-in CTP does not replace upstream electrical protection.
- This is a direct-on-line three-phase pump with a starting current of about 35 A on Tsurumi Europe 400 V 50 Hz data. Size generators and breakers for the starting current.
- Check the direction of rotation before first use. Wrong phase sequence makes a three-phase pump run in reverse with reduced performance; if so, have an electrician swap two phases.
- The pump can start at any moment once the probe is wet. Always isolate the power before handling, lifting or servicing.
- Electrode control needs a liquid that conducts between the probe and the pump body. Very low-conductivity water may not trigger a start, so test on site first.
- Lift the pump by its handle. Never lift it by the power cable, and protect the cable from crushing or cuts.
- Stand the pump on a firm base or blocks so it does not draw in mud and gravel.
- Use only within the stated limits: liquid 0–40 °C, solids up to 8.5 mm, submergence up to 25 m. The standard model is not seawater-resistant and has no explosion-proof rating; do not use it in flammable or explosive atmospheres, or for flammable or hazardous liquids, chemicals, oils, solvents or sewage containing fibres.
Wear parts and routine checks
- Main wear parts: impeller, suction cover, mechanical seals and oil seal. With long running in sandy water, the impeller and suction cover gradually wear and flow drops.
- Check the oil condition and level in the oil chamber regularly (turbine oil ISO VG32, 740 ml). If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
- Check the electrode probe regularly for damage; fit the electrode probe cover where impacts are likely.
- After the CTP trips, it resets automatically once the motor cools and the pump can restart. Find the cause of the trip first.
