The TSURUMI FAMILY-12 is the standard (manual) model in Tsurumi's FAMILY range of domestic pumps, listed by Tsurumi as a portable submersible dewatering pump. It is a single-phase portable submersible drainage pump with a 0.1 kW motor. Alongside the 25 mm hose coupling, it comes with an easy-to-attach 15 mm hose coupling as a standard accessory, so you can match the hose you already have. At just 3.4 kg dry and with a top-discharge design, it is made for clearing clear or lightly dirty water around the home.
As standard, the FAMILY-12 drains water down to about 12 mm. With the optional residue adapter fitted to the pump casing and the pump standing on fully flat, smooth ground, it drains residual water down to about 1 mm. The residue adapter fits the FAMILY-12 standard model only.
Selection note: the FAMILY-12 is a manual model with no level control, so you need to switch it off once the water is cleared. For automatic start and stop by water level, choose the FAMILY-12A automatic model, which has a cylindrical float switch. Both have identical performance, but the residue adapter does not fit the automatic model. The FAMILY range is not a slurry or sewage pump; for heavier-duty residue drainage, look at the Tsurumi HSR, LSC or LSP ranges.
Key features
- Two discharge sizes: a 25 mm hose coupling, plus an easy-to-attach 15 mm hose coupling supplied as standard.
- Residue drainage: drains to about 12 mm as standard, or to about 1 mm with the optional residue adapter (FAMILY-12 standard model only).
- Top discharge with flow-thru design: suits partial-immersion running and use in confined spaces.
- Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping into the motor by capillary action if the cable sheath is damaged or the cable end is submerged, and keeps moist air and condensation out of the motor housing.
- Built-in motor protector (MTP, miniature thermal protector): detects excess heat and protects the motor against overheating and dry running.
- Inside mechanical seal: silicon carbide (SiC) faces housed in the oil chamber. Tsurumi quotes silicon carbide as having about five times the corrosion, wear and heat resistance of tungsten carbide.
- Lightweight resin construction: resin casing, semi-vortex impeller in glass-fiber reinforced resin and a 420 stainless steel shaft, at only 3.4 kg dry.
- Continuous-duty motor: dry-type induction motor, 2-pole, insulation class E, capacitor run.

- Residual water clearance: with the residue adapter, clearing shallow standing water from flat surfaces to reduce mosquito breeding

Performance
Hong Kong mains is 50 Hz, so the 50 Hz figures apply. The 6 m maximum head is the head at zero flow, and the maximum capacity of about 0.08 m³/min (about 80 L/min) is the end point of the performance curve, at 0 m head. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises, so select from the performance curve using your total head. With the residue adapter fitted, maximum capacity drops to about 0.038 m³/min while maximum head stays the same. On 60 Hz, maximum head is 7 m and maximum capacity is also about 0.08 m³/min.

Optional accessories
- Residue adapter: a rubber ring fitted to the pump casing that drains residual water down to about 1 mm. It needs fully flat, smooth ground and reduces maximum capacity to about 0.038 m³/min. Fits the FAMILY-12 standard model only; please check with us before ordering whether it is included.
- Seawater-resistant coating: a factory option, not fitted to the standard model. Please enquire if you need it.
- Hose: use 15 mm or 25 mm hose to match the coupling fitted.
Safety and installation
- Connect only to the voltage and frequency shown on the nameplate. Hong Kong mains is 220V/50Hz, so check the nameplate before use, and use an earthed supply with residual current protection (RCD/ELCB).
- The built-in thermal protector cuts power on overheating or dry running and resets once the motor cools. Do not rely on it for routine dry-run protection: the FAMILY-12 has no level control, so attend the pump while it runs and switch it off once the water is cleared.
- Never lift or carry the pump by its power cable (the FAMILY range has no cable clip), and do not let the plug or cable end become submerged.
- Do not pump flammable, explosive, corrosive or hot liquids. The standard model is not seawater-resistant. Tsurumi UK does not recommend this pump for ponds or water features.
- Disconnect the power before handling or cleaning the pump, or fitting the residue adapter or hose coupling.
- Obtain the delivery specification sheet before use. Tsurumi notes that website information may differ from actual product specifications.
Wear parts and routine checks
- Main wear parts: impeller and mechanical seal.
- Regularly check the inlet for debris and the cable sheath for damage. If flow drops noticeably, inspect the impeller and inlet. If the oil in the oil chamber is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seal inspected promptly.
