The TSURUMI NK3-15 is a single-phase submersible dewatering pump from Tsurumi's NK series (officially classed as a portable dewatering pump). It has a 50 mm discharge with a standard hose coupling and a 1.5 kW 2-pole capacitor-start motor. The NK series carries a larger-output motor, and although it runs on single-phase power, its wear parts are made of abrasion-resistant materials, giving durability comparable to three-phase drainage pumps. The slim body fits into narrow pits and manholes. It is rated for rain water, ground water and sand-carrying water at 0–40 °C.

Selection note: the NK3-15 is a dewatering pump, not a sewage pump or a slurry pump. With a solids passage of only 8.5 mm, it is not suitable for sewage containing fibrous matter or for dense slurry. Tsurumi's NKZ construction slurry pumps have a similar name but are a separate series. For a higher head, choose the 2.2 kW NK4-22 from the same series.

Performance

The 20.0 m maximum head (50 Hz; 21.0 m at 60 Hz) is the head at near-zero flow, and the 0.42 m³/min (420 L/min, about 25.2 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. For more head and flow, consider the NK4-22 (24.0 m and 0.525 m³/min at 50 Hz).

Safety and installation

Electrical connection must be made by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with a dedicated earth-leakage circuit breaker, a thermal overload relay and a secure earth. Never earth the pump to a gas pipe, water pipe, lightning rod or telephone earth.
Keep the supply voltage within ±5% of the nameplate rating. On a generator, do not run other equipment from the same generator.
Do not run the pump dry, below the continuous running water level (80 mm), or against a closed gate valve.
Carry the pump by its handle. Never lift or drag it by the cable, and do not start it while it is suspended.
Secure the discharge hose so it cannot whip. If the pump could sink into sediment, stand it on a firm base such as a concrete block.
The built-in circle thermal protector resets automatically once the motor has cooled, restarting the pump, and the pump also restarts by itself when power returns after a power cut. If the protector trips, switch off the power and clear the cause first; always isolate the power before inspection or servicing, after a power cut and before long idle periods.
Do not pump oil, seawater or salt water, chemicals, corrosive liquids, organic solvents, flammable or explosive liquids, or liquids above 40 °C. Not for potable water.
The pump is neither dust-proof nor explosion-proof: do not use it where toxic, corrosive or explosive gas is present, and never run it while anyone is in the pool or sump.
The pump surface can be hot during and after operation.

Wear parts and routine checks

Daily: check that running current is at or below the rated current and voltage is within ±5% of rated.
Monthly: measure motor insulation resistance; it must be at least 1 MΩ in service (at least 20 MΩ when new or after repair).
Every 6 months or 3,000 hours: check the oil in the oil chamber. If it is milky or contains water, the mechanical seal may be faulty and the pump needs repair.
Every 12 months or 6,000 hours: change the oil with VG32 turbine oil (270 ml).
Periodic replacement parts: mechanical seal (when the oil turns milky), packing and O-rings (at every disassembly or inspection), V-ring (when worn or at every disassembly), and shaft sleeve (when worn). Mechanical seal replacement should be done by your dealer or Tsurumi service.
Overhaul every 2 to 5 years. If the pump is left in the water, run it at least once a week to stop it seizing.
