The TSURUMI 80NHC211 is the most powerful model in the NHC series of submersible cutter sewage pumps from Tsurumi's TSURUMI UNIVERSE brand. It has an 80 mm discharge and an 11 kW 2-pole three-phase motor (3000 min⁻¹ at 50 Hz) with star-delta starting. Two sintered tungsten carbide alloy edges are brazed onto the vanes of its semi-open two-channel impeller and rotate over the serrated suction port of the suction cover, cutting incoming fibrous material so that it does not clog discharge pipes or valves.
The NHC series is designed for raw sewage, wastewater and heavy-duty industrial drainage where oversize material would otherwise clog the pump. The 80NHC211 is the only model in the series with star-delta starting, miniature thermal protectors (MTP) and an electrode-type leakage sensor, so it must be used with an external control panel.
Selection note: the NHC is a cutter pump for sewage and wastewater, not a slurry or sludge pump. It is not suitable for sandy site water or abrasive slurries. Tsurumi Hong Kong also uses the Chinese name 不阻塞切刃型污物泵 for its separate C series, which has different specifications, so always select by model number. If your duty needs less head, or you do not plan to install a star-delta panel, consider a smaller direct-on-line 80 mm model such as the 80NHC23.7.
Key features

- Double inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces housed in an oil chamber. Tsurumi's catalogue rates SiC at five times the corrosion, wear and heat resistance of tungsten carbide.
- Oil Lifter (a Tsurumi original design): keeps the seal faces lubricated and cooled even when the oil level falls to one third of normal.
- Miniature thermal protectors (MTP): detect overheating, for example from dry running, and open a bimetal contact so that the external control panel cuts the power.
- Electrode-type leakage sensor: fitted in the oil chamber and signals an indicator lamp on the external control panel, giving early warning of water entering past the seals.
- Seal pressure relief ports: fitted on NHC models from 5.5 to 11 kW.
- Class H insulated dry-type induction motor: rated for continuous duty.
- Anti-wicking cable entry: limits water creeping along the cable cores into the motor if the cable sheath is damaged.
- Guide rail option: the guide rail version, TOS80NHC211, lets the pump be raised and lowered for maintenance without anyone entering the sump.

Performance
The figures below are read from Tsurumi's official 50 Hz performance curve and are approximate. The maximum head of about 49 m is the head at near-zero flow. The maximum capacity of about 0.99 m³/min (about 990 L/min) is the end point of the curve, where the head is about 22 m. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus pipe friction loss) rises, so select the pump from the curve using your system's total head. Tsurumi advises against continuous operation on the dashed (low-flow) part of the curve.

Optional accessories
- Guide rail fitting system (TOS): ordered as the guide rail model TOS80NHC211. The set includes a duckfoot bend, guide support (with bolts and nuts), guide hook, 5 m lifting chain with shackles and a JIS 10kg/cm² flange. The guide pipe is not supplied and must be sourced locally.
- Star-delta control panel: the 80NHC211 requires star-delta starting, and its MTP and leakage-sensor leads must be connected to an external control panel.
- Float switches (level sensors): the MC-2 heavy-duty float switch has a shock absorber for liquids with heavy suspended solids and scum, with selectable NO or NC contact; the MT-1 economy teardrop float switch suits scum-laden wastewater and has an SPDT contact for filling or emptying control.
- Pipework: the discharge flange is JIS 10K, so pipe flanges and fittings must match.
- Lubricant: turbine oil ISO VG32, 2000 ml per oil change.
Safety and installation
The first three points come from Tsurumi's catalogue; the rest are general installation guidance:
- The MTP only cuts power through the control panel, so it must be wired in to protect the motor.
- The leakage sensor must be connected to the control panel's indicator lamp to give any warning.
- Do not run continuously on the dashed (low-flow) part of the performance curve.
- Three-phase electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with proper earthing and overload and short-circuit protection. Check the direction of rotation before first use.
- The pump weighs 154 kg free-standing. Lift it by its handle or lifting chain, never by the power cable.
- Isolate and lock out the power before inspecting or clearing the suction cover. The tungsten carbide edges and serrated suction cover are sharp.
- No explosion-proof rating is published, so do not use the pump in flammable or explosive atmospheres.
- Sewage sumps are confined spaces with hydrogen sulphide and oxygen-deficiency hazards. A guide rail installation lets the pump be lifted out for service without anyone entering the sump.
Wear parts and routine checks
- The Oil Lifter only keeps the seals lubricated down to one third of the normal oil level, so check the oil level and condition in the oil chamber regularly. If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the mechanical seals inspected promptly.
- In general, the impeller cutting edges, suction cover, mechanical seals and oil seal are the main wear parts. If flow drops noticeably or cutting performance falls off, inspect the impeller and suction cover.
- Watch the leakage-sensor indicator lamp and any MTP trips, and check the cable sheath for damage.
