The TSURUMI 50NHC23.7 is a submersible cutter-impeller sewage pump from the NHC series of Tsurumi's TSURUMI UNIVERSE brand. It has a 50 mm discharge and a 3.7 kW 2-pole three-phase motor with direct-on-line (D.O.L.) starting. Its semi-open two-channel impeller carries two sintered tungsten carbide alloy cutting edges brazed onto the vanes, which rotate against the serrated suction port of the suction cover. Fibrous material is cut up as it enters the pump, which helps prevent clogging in discharge pipes and valves. It is designed for raw sewage, wastewater and heavy-duty industrial applications where oversize material tends to block a pump.

Selection note: the 50NHC23.7 and the 50NHC23.0 have a similar shut-off head (approx. 31.5–32 m), but the 50NHC23.7 reaches more flow (curve end point approx. 0.67 m³/min versus approx. 0.50 m³/min). If you need more flow at a lower head, consider the 80NHC23.7, which has the same 3.7 kW motor with an 80 mm discharge. The NHC is a sewage cutter pump, not a slurry pump, and is not intended for sand slurry or construction-site mud.

Key features

Cutter impeller: semi-open two-channel impeller with two sintered tungsten carbide alloy cutting edges, working against a serrated suction port to shred fibrous solids.
Dual inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces housed in an oil chamber. Tsurumi rates SiC at five times the corrosion, wear and heat resistance of tungsten carbide.
Oil Lifter (a Tsurumi original design): keeps the seal faces lubricated and cooled even when the oil drops to about one third of its normal level.
Continuous-duty dry-type induction motor: 2-pole, 3000 min⁻¹ at 50 Hz, class H insulation.
Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on excessive heat or overcurrent.
Anti-wicking cable entry: limits water creeping along the cable cores into the motor.
Two installation options: free-standing, or the TOS50NHC23.7 guide rail version (ordered separately) so the pump can be raised and lowered for maintenance.

Performance

From Tsurumi's 50 Hz performance curve, the shut-off head (maximum head, at zero flow) of the 50NHC23.7 is approx. 31.5–32 m, and the curve end point (maximum capacity) is approx. 0.67 m³/min (about 670 L/min) at a head of approx. 22 m. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus pipe friction loss) rises, so select the pump from the curve using your system's total head. These values are read from the catalogue curve, are for reference only and are not guaranteed duty points. Tsurumi advises against continuous operation on the dashed (low-flow) part of the curve.

The set includes a duckfoot bend, guide support (with bolts and nuts), guide hook, 5 m lifting chain with shackles and a JIS 10kg/cm² flange. The guide pipe is not supplied and must be sourced locally. Once installed, the pump can be raised and lowered for maintenance without anyone entering the sump.
Float switches (level sensors): MC-2 is a heavy-duty type with a shock absorber for liquids with much suspended solids and scum, with selectable NO or NC contact. MT-1 is an economy teardrop type for scum-laden wastewater, with an SPDT contact for filling or emptying control.
Control panel: three-phase direct-on-line starter with overload and short-circuit protection.
Lubricant: turbine oil ISO VG32 (oil chamber capacity for this model: 1,300 ml).
Discharge pipe flanges and fittings must match JIS 10K.

Safety and installation

Three-phase installation and wiring must be carried out by a registered electrical worker, with proper earthing and overload and short-circuit protection.
Check the rotation direction before first use.
Lift the pump by its handle or a lifting chain (56 kg dry, free-standing). Never lift it by the power cable.
Isolate and lock out the power before inspecting or clearing the suction cover. The tungsten carbide cutting edges and serrated suction port are sharp.
No explosion-proof rating is published. Do not use in flammable or explosive atmospheres.
Sewage sumps are confined spaces with hydrogen sulphide and oxygen-deficiency hazards. A guide rail installation lets the pump be serviced without entering the sump.
Do not run continuously on the dashed (low-flow) part of the performance curve.

Wear parts and routine checks

The impeller cutting edges and the serrated suction port wear with use, gradually reducing cutting and pumping performance. Inspect them regularly.
The Oil Lifter only keeps the seals lubricated down to about one third of the normal oil level, so check the oil level and condition in the oil chamber regularly. If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the mechanical seals inspected promptly.
