The TSURUMI KTZ415 is a submersible three-phase heavy-duty dewatering pump from Tsurumi's flagship KTZ series (listed by Tsurumi under Dewatering Pumps; classed in Hong Kong as a general construction pump). It has a 100 mm (4-inch) discharge and a 15 kW 2-pole three-phase motor. Its cast iron body and high-chromium cast iron impeller make it a general-purpose muddy-water pump for high-head drainage on construction sites, in aggregate operations and in mines. It handles site water carrying a small amount of sand and silt (up to 10% dry matter, pH 5–9, solids up to 12 mm).

Selection note: the KTZ415 is a dewatering pump, not a slurry pump. It has no agitator and is not suited to settled sludge or dense sand slurry; Tsurumi's agitator-equipped slurry pumps are the KTD series. It also has no built-in automatic level control, and Tsurumi's automatic KTZE series only goes up to 3.7 kW. The standard pump is not seawater-resistant, and Tsurumi's official Seawater-Resistant Kit is not listed for the KTZ415. For seawater, consider the KTZ411 seawater-resistant version.

Key features

Top-discharge, side-flow design: the motor stays cooled even when it runs exposed to air, and the slim body fits confined spaces. For continuous running, keep the water level at 190 mm or higher.
Multi-directional hose coupling: the discharge can be set vertical or inclined, so the hose does not fold or kink.
Semi-open high-chromium cast iron impeller: resists wear from abrasive particles in site water.
Dual inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces housed in the oil chamber, away from abrasion and corrosion. Tsurumi states SiC has five times the corrosion, wear and heat resistance of tungsten carbide. Tsurumi's Oil Lifter keeps the seal faces lubricated and cooled even when the oil drops to about one third of the normal level.
Seal pressure relief ports and 304 stainless steel labyrinth ring: on the 7.5–22 kW models, pumping pressure is kept off the shaft seal, so the mechanical seals only see submergence pressure.
Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on overheating or overcurrent.
Anti-wicking cable entry and cable clip: stops water creeping into the motor along the cable by capillary action if the sheath is damaged; the clip protects the cable against pulling.
420 stainless steel shaft: quench-hardened where it comes into contact with particles.

Performance

The 55 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 1,980 L/min (about 118.8 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the 50 Hz performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. The KTZ415 has the second-highest head of the 100 mm KTZ models; for more head, consider the KTZ422 (71 m). If you need more volume at a lower head, consider the KTZ615, which has the same 15 kW motor with a 150 mm discharge (2,800 L/min, 39.5 m).

Safety and installation

The KTZ415 weighs 146 kg dry, so use lifting equipment. Lift it by the eye bolt or handle with a chain or rope. Never lift or lower the pump by its power cable, and protect the cable from pulling or cutting.
Three-phase supply only. Electrical connection must be made by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with proper earthing and a motor starter that has overload and phase-failure protection. Check the voltage and current on the nameplate before connecting.
Check the rotation direction after wiring. If it is wrong, have an electrician swap two phases.
If the built-in thermal protector trips, find the cause of the overheating or overcurrent before running the pump again. Always isolate and lock out the power before inspection or servicing.
Keep the water level at 190 mm or higher for continuous running, and do not let the pump end run dry for long periods. Use a strainer and do not let the pump get buried in sludge.
Not for flammable or explosive liquids or atmospheres (the pump is not explosion-proof), and not for drinking water, oils or solvents. Liquid temperature must not exceed 40 °C, and pH must stay within 5–9.
The standard model is not seawater-resistant and is not recommended for seawater or brackish water.
