The TSURUMI MT-1-10 is Tsurumi's Integrated Counterweight Float Switch MT (model MT-1) supplied with the standard 10 m cable. Tsurumi describes the MT as an economy-type float switch: its teardrop-shaped float carries a built-in counterweight and sheds solids, making it an ideal level sensor for wastewater with dense floating scum. The single pole double throw (SPDT) switch can be wired for either emptying (pump-down) or filling duty.

Selection note: the MT-1 is a level sensor. It is not a pump and does not include a control panel. Three-phase pumps must be started through a control panel and contactor, with the float switch providing the control signal; never use the float switch to switch three-phase motor power directly.

How it works

As the water rises, the float lifts and the switch operates once it tilts by about 20°. As the level keeps rising, the float overturns and stays submerged thanks to its integrated counterweight. When the level falls, the float hangs back down and the switch resets. Because the switch is SPDT, choosing the normally-open or normally-closed contact sets it up for pump-down (closed at high level) or filling (closed at low level).

Compatible pumps

Tsurumi's official catalogues for the B series and C series cast-iron sewage pumps both list the MT-1 as an optional float switch. Models available from Jaco include:

B series non-clog sewage pumps: 50B2.75, 80B21.5
C series non-clog cutter sewage pumps: 50C2.75, 80C21.5

Whichever pump it is used with, connect it through a control panel or relay, with the contactor and overload protection sized to the pump's rated current.

Installation notes

Wiring must be carried out by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations. Stay within the ratings for your load: 0.1 A at 12/24 V for low-power use, and max. 10(8) A at 250 V AC for high-power use.
Three-phase pumps must be controlled through a control panel and contactor; the float switch supplies only the control signal.
Let the float hang freely, clear of the pump, pipework and sump walls, so it cannot snag or tangle.
Set the start and stop levels by adjusting the hanging cable length, then raise and lower the water level to test operation after installation.
Use within the working temperature range (0–50 °C high-power, 0–60 °C low-power) and the 196 kPa proof pressure.
Never use the float cable to lift the pump or anything other than the float itself.
Isolate power to the pump and control panel before inspecting, cleaning or adjusting the float.

Routine checks

Clear scum build-up from the float and cable regularly and check that the float swings freely.
Inspect the cable sheath and cable entry for damage; if damaged, take the switch out of service and replace it.
