The TSURUMI 80C25.5-CR is a submersible sewage pump with cutter impeller from Tsurumi's C series, with an 80 mm discharge and a 5.5 kW 2-pole three-phase motor. Brazed sintered tungsten carbide edges on the impeller vanes work against a serrated suction cover to shred fibrous and solid matter as it enters the pump, preventing clogging. The "CR" suffix means both the impeller and the suction cover are made of high-chromium cast iron, giving higher wear resistance than the standard grey cast-iron build. It is designed for draining sewage and wastewater from buildings and kitchens, and for transferring sewage in the water treatment facilities of factories and commercial complexes.

Selection note: the 80C25.5-CR is a cutter pump, not a grinder pump or macerator (Tsurumi's grinder pumps are the separate MG series), and it is not a construction slurry or sand pump. "-CR" refers to high-chromium cast-iron wear parts, not chrome plating or a stainless finish. This is a non-automatic model with no built-in float switch; automatic operation needs a separate float switch and control panel.

Key features

Cutter impeller: semi-open two-channel impeller with brazed sintered tungsten carbide edges. Grooves on the front of the suction cover catch fibrous matter, which the carbide edges and saw teeth then shred, so fibres cannot wrap and block the pump. Tsurumi's own demonstrations show it cutting aluminium cans, plastic bottles, non-flushable wipes and nylon pantyhose.
High-chromium cast-iron (CR) impeller and suction cover: greater durability and wear resistance against solids in long-running sewage duty.
Dual inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide faces (SiC + SiC) on both the upper and lower seals, running in an oil chamber. Tsurumi rates SiC as five times more resistant to corrosion, wear and heat than tungsten carbide.
Patented Tsurumi Oil Lifter: keeps the seal faces lubricated and cooled even when the oil drops to one third of the normal level.
Seal pressure relief port: fitted on C-series 2-pole models of 5.5 kW and above, including this model.
Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on overheating or overcurrent and resets automatically once the motor cools.
Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping along the cable cores by capillary action if the sheath is damaged or the cable end is submerged, and keeps moist air and condensation out of the motor.
Continuous-duty dry-type induction motor: IP68, class F insulation, with permanently lubricated, double-shielded deep-groove C3 ball bearings.

Performance

At 50 Hz, the 32 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 1,340 L/min (about 80.4 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus pipe friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your system's total head. For higher heads, consider the 80C27.5-CR (38 m) or 80C211-CR (47 m).

Guide rail fitting TOSH-80: the pump is lowered and lifted along guide pipes onto a duckfoot bend, so it can be serviced without entering the sump. The set includes the duckfoot bend, guide support (with bolts and nuts), guide hook, 5 m lifting chain (with shackles) and a threaded JIS 10K flange; guide pipes are not supplied.
Float switches: MC-2 (heavy-duty with shock absorber, NO or NC contact) or MT-1 (economy type, SPDT, for filling or emptying), connected through a control panel.
External electrode leakage sensor: optional; this model has no built-in leakage sensor.
Control panel: a DOL starter panel, or a star-delta panel when the star-delta version is ordered, with the overload relay set to the nameplate rated current.

Safety and installation

Three-phase supply and control-panel wiring must be carried out by a registered electrical worker. Earth the pump properly and provide overload and earth-leakage protection.
After the built-in circle thermal protector trips, the motor restarts automatically once it cools. Always isolate and lock out the power before touching the pump or its impeller.
The impeller has sharp tungsten carbide edges and the suction cover is serrated. Wear cut-resistant gloves and isolate the power before clearing debris.
The pump weighs about 106–120 kg dry. Use suitable lifting gear and a lifting chain, and never lift or lower the pump by its power cable.
Do not damage the cable sheath or let the cable end be submerged during installation; the anti-wicking entry is a safeguard only.
Avoid prolonged dry-running. The standard version is for liquids at 0–40 °C and pH 5–9 only. It is not seawater-resistant and not explosion-proof, so never pump flammable or explosive liquids.
Sewage sumps are confined spaces with possible hydrogen sulphide or oxygen deficiency. Follow Hong Kong confined-space regulations; a guide rail fitting lets you service the pump without entering the sump.

Wear parts and routine checks

Main wear parts: impeller (carbide edges), suction cover, mechanical seals and oil seal.
Check the turbine oil in the oil chamber (ISO VG32, 2,090 ml) periodically as set out in the manual. If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
If cutting performance or flow drops noticeably, inspect the impeller edges and the suction cover teeth for wear.
