The TSURUMI KTZ43.7-SEA Seawater-Resistant Version is Tsurumi's KTZ43.7 submersible dewatering pump (officially classed as a general construction pump) fitted with the optional factory Seawater-Resistant Kit. It has a 100 mm (4-inch) discharge and a 3.7 kW 2-pole three-phase motor. The kit adds galvanic anodes and a seawater-resistant special cast iron impeller, allowing the pump to handle seawater for about two years of service (actual service life depends on operating conditions).

Selection note: the standard KTZ43.7 is not seawater-resistant; long-term seawater duty requires the Seawater-Resistant Kit. The kit is not a permanent corrosion solution either: the anodes need replacing every two years and the special impeller every few years up to ten, depending on conditions. For longer seawater service, consult the dealer first. This is a dewatering (muddy-water) pump, not a slurry pump: it is not suitable for settled sludge or dense sand slurry, and it has no automatic operation. For freshwater site drainage only, choose the standard KTZ43.7.

Key features

Galvanic anodes: supplied with fittings and seal putty. They are mainly aluminium, with zinc used only on the strainer stand. Their lower potential means they corrode first, protecting the cast iron and steel parts of the pump.
Seawater-resistant special cast iron impeller: a chromium-containing cast iron developed by Tsurumi for seawater duty. Its potential is slightly lower than the shaft's, so it corrodes slowly and sacrificially to protect the shaft, with about one tenth of the corrosive wear of a conventional cast iron impeller.
Grey cast iron hose coupling: included in the kit for 3.7 kW KTZ models. Where the pump has steel eye bolts, the kit replaces them with 304 stainless steel eye bolts.
Top-discharge, side-flow design: keeps the motor cooled even when partly exposed to air, and gives a slim body for confined spaces.
Multi-directional discharge: the hose coupling can be set vertical or inclined so the hose does not kink.
Dual inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces housed in the oil chamber, isolated from abrasion and corrosion. Tsurumi's Oil Lifter keeps the seals lubricated and cooled down to one third of the normal oil level. An NBR oil seal acts as a dust seal.
Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on excessive heat or overcurrent.
Anti-wicking cable entry: stops water creeping into the motor by capillary action if the cable sheath is damaged, with a cable clip to guard against pulling.

Applications

Waterfront development and marine construction: draining seawater from coastal and marine works

General site drainage: water carrying a small amount of sand and silt (up to 10% dry matter)

Performance

Based on Tsurumi's 50 Hz data for the base KTZ43.7, the 18 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 1,440 L/min (86.4 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. For more head from a 100 mm discharge, consider the KTZ411-SEA Seawater-Resistant Version (48.5 m).

The KTZ615-SEA is Jaco's seawater-resistant specification of the KTZ615, and its hydraulics are base-model data. Confirm its seawater-resistant configuration and minimum water level with Jaco before ordering.

Optional accessories

Float switch plus a motor starter or control panel with overload and phase protection. The KTZ has no built-in level control, so add these for unattended operation.
Replacement galvanic anodes and seawater-resistant special cast iron impeller (ask the dealer for part numbers).
Star-delta starting: available on request for the base KTZ43.7; confirm with the dealer first.

Safety and installation

Three-phase supply only. Wiring must be done by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with proper earthing and a motor starter that provides overload and phase protection.
Check the voltage and current on the nameplate before connecting, and confirm the rotation direction after wiring.
If the built-in thermal protector trips, find the cause (such as a blockage, low water level or abnormal voltage) before running again. Always isolate and lock out the power before inspection or servicing.
For continuous running, keep the water level at or above the 660 mm C.W.L. so all anodes work effectively. Below this level, parts that are not submerged may corrode.
Lift the pump by its eye bolt or handle with a chain or rope. Never lift it by the cable, and protect the cable from pulling or cutting.
Use a strainer and do not let the pump become buried in sludge.
The pump is not explosion-proof: do not use it with flammable or explosive liquids or atmospheres, or for drinking water, oils or solvents. Liquid temperature must not exceed 40 °C.

Wear parts and routine checks

Galvanic anodes: replace every two years.
Seawater-resistant special cast iron impeller: replace every few years up to ten, depending on conditions.
Check the oil chamber regularly (turbine oil ISO VG32, 1,250 ml). If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the mechanical seals inspected promptly.
The impeller, suction cover, mechanical seals and oil seal are wear parts. Running in sandy water speeds up wear, and flow drops as they wear.
