The TSURUMI KTZ31.5 is a three-phase submersible dewatering pump from Tsurumi's KTZ series (officially classed as a general construction pump). It has an 80 mm (3-inch) discharge and a 1.5 kW 2-pole three-phase motor. KTZ is Tsurumi's flagship heavy-duty line: a cast-iron body with a high-chromium cast-iron impeller, built for abrasive drainage work on construction sites, in quarries and in mines. It handles site water carrying a small amount of sand and silt (up to 10% dry matter, pH 5–9, solids up to 8.5 mm).

Selection note: the KTZ31.5 is a non-automatic model with no built-in float or electrode level control. Run it with an external float switch and control panel, or switch it manually. For automatic operation at the same 80 mm and 1.5 kW, choose the KTZE31.5. The KTZ21.5 has the same 1.5 kW motor with a 50 mm discharge, giving more head (up to 21.5 m) but less flow (up to 430 L/min). KTZ pumps are dewatering pumps, not slurry pumps, so they are not suitable for settled sludge, dense sand slurry or sand transfer.

Key features

Cast-iron body, high-chromium impeller: the semi-open high-chromium cast-iron impeller resists wear from sandy site water. The suction cover is ductile cast iron and the shaft is 420 stainless steel, quench-hardened where it meets abrasive particles.
Top-discharge, side-flow design: the motor stays cooled even when it runs exposed to air, and the slim body fits narrow sumps and pits. Keep at least 120 mm of water for continuous running and do not run it dry for long periods.
Multi-directional hose coupling: the discharge can be set vertical or inclined so the hose does not fold or kink.
Double inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide (SiC) faces sit in the oil chamber, protected from abrasion and corrosion. Tsurumi rates SiC at five times the corrosion, wear and heat resistance of tungsten carbide. An NBR oil seal acts as a dust seal.
Oil Lifter (a Tsurumi original): keeps the seal faces lubricated and cooled even when the oil drops to one third of the normal level.
Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on overheating or overcurrent.
Anti-wicking cable entry and cable clip: stops water creeping into the motor along the cable if the sheath is damaged, and protects the cable against pulling.

Performance

The 14.4 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 670 L/min (about 40.2 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus hose friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. For higher heads, consider the KTZ32.2 (20.4 m) or KTZ33.7 (29 m).

Motor starter or control panel with overload and phase-loss protection, set to the nameplate rated current.
Discharge hose to suit the 80 mm hose coupling.

Safety and installation

Lift the pump by its handle with a chain or rope. Never lift or drag it by the power cable.
Electrical connection must be made by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations, with proper earthing and earth-leakage protection. Check the voltage and current on the nameplate before connecting.
Check the direction of rotation after connection. If it is wrong, have an electrician swap two phases.
If the built-in thermal protector trips, find the cause of the overheating or overcurrent before restarting. Always isolate and lock out the power before inspection or servicing.
Use a strainer and stand the pump on a firm or raised base so it does not sink into silt.
The standard model is not seawater-resistant and is not suitable for long-term use in seawater. Do not pump liquids outside pH 5–9 or above 40 °C, or flammable or explosive liquids, and do not use it in explosive atmospheres.

Wear parts and routine checks

Main wear parts: impeller, suction cover, mechanical seals and oil seal. Wear is faster in sandy or corrosive water, and flow drops as these parts wear.
Check the oil in the oil chamber regularly (turbine oil ISO VG32, 740 ml). If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
