The TSURUMI 80C23.7-CR is a submersible non-clogging sewage pump with a cutter impeller from Tsurumi's C series. It has an 80 mm discharge and a 3.7 kW 2-pole three-phase motor. The "CR" suffix means the impeller and suction cover are made of high-chromium cast iron (it does not mean chrome plating), giving higher durability and wear resistance against solids. The semi-open two-channel cutter impeller carries sintered tungsten carbide alloy edges that work against a serrated suction cover, shredding fibres and debris before discharge to prevent clogging.
It is designed to drain sewage and wastewater from buildings and kitchens, and to transfer sewage and wastewater in the treatment facilities of factories and commercial complexes. It handles sewage, wastewater and water carrying solids at 0–40 °C and pH 5–9.
Selection note: the 80C23.7-CR is a cutter pump, not a grinder pump or macerator, and not a construction slurry pump. C-series pumps are non-automatic, so level control needs a separate float switch and control panel. For lighter duty on a lower budget, consider the non-CR 80C21.5 (1.5 kW, grey cast-iron impeller). Do not confuse it with Tsurumi's separate 15 kW model, the 80C215-CR.
Key features
- Cutter impeller: semi-open two-channel impeller with brazed sintered tungsten carbide alloy edges. Grooves on the front of the suction cover catch fibrous matter, which the carbide edges and saw teeth then shred, preventing clogging. Tsurumi demonstrates it cutting aluminium cans, plastic bottles, non-flushable wipes and nylon pantyhose.
- CR high-chromium cast-iron impeller and suction cover: more durable and wear-resistant than the standard grey-iron impeller and ductile-iron suction cover.
- Double inside mechanical seals: silicon carbide faces on both the upper and lower seals (SiC + SiC), running in an oil chamber. Tsurumi rates SiC at five times the corrosion, wear and heat resistance of tungsten carbide.
- Patented Tsurumi Oil Lifter: keeps the seal faces lubricated and cooled even when the oil drops to about one third of the normal level.
- Built-in circle thermal protector (CTP): cuts the motor circuit directly on overheating or overcurrent.
- Anti-wicking cable entry: stops capillary water ingress if the cable sheath is damaged or the cable end is submerged, and keeps moist air and condensation out of the motor.
- Continuous-duty motor: dry-type induction motor rated IP68, with permanently lubricated, double-shielded deep-groove C3 ball bearings.

Performance
The 29 m maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and the 650 L/min (about 39 m³/h) maximum capacity is the end point of the performance curve. The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus pipe friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. For more flow or head, consider the 80C25.5-CR (32 m / 1,340 L/min) or the 80C27.5-CR (38 m).

Optional accessories
- Guide rail fitting TOSH-80: for the guide-rail model TOS80C23.7-CR. The pump is lowered onto or hoisted off the duckfoot bend along guide pipes, so it can be serviced without entering the sump. The set typically includes the duckfoot bend, guide support (with bolts and nuts), guide hook, 5 m lifting chain (with shackles) and a threaded JIS 10K flange. Guide pipes are not supplied.
- Discharge bend BEND 80-80F: per the Tsurumi product guide, this model is supplied without a discharge bend as standard. Please ask us to confirm the supply scope.
- Float switches: MC-2 (heavy-duty, with shock absorber, NO or NC contact) or MT-1 (economy teardrop type, SPDT, for filling or emptying), connected through a control panel.
- External leakage sensor (electrode type): this model has no built-in leakage sensor; add one if seal monitoring is required.
- Control panel: with overload and earth-leakage protection, with the overload relay set to the nameplate rated current.
Safety and installation
- Three-phase connection and control-panel wiring must be done by a registered electrical worker. Earth the pump properly and provide overload and earth-leakage protection.
- The built-in circle thermal protector resets automatically: after a trip, the motor restarts once it cools. Always isolate and lock out the power before touching the pump or clearing the impeller.
- The impeller has sharp tungsten carbide edges and the suction cover is serrated. Wear cut-resistant gloves when clearing debris.
- The pump weighs about 70 kg dry. Use suitable lifting gear with the lifting chain or handle, and never lift or lower the pump by its power cable.
- Do not damage the cable sheath or let the cable end get submerged during installation. The anti-wicking entry is a safeguard only.
- Avoid prolonged dry running. Do not pump flammable or explosive liquids; this is not an explosion-proof pump. The standard version is not seawater-resistant and is rated for liquids up to 40 °C and pH 5–9.
- Sewage sumps are confined spaces where hydrogen sulphide or low oxygen may be present. Follow Hong Kong confined-space regulations. A guide rail installation lets you service the pump without entering the sump.
Wear parts and routine checks
- Main wear parts: cutter impeller, suction cover, mechanical seals and oil seal. After long service on sewage with solids or fibres, the cutting edges and serrations wear gradually, reducing cutting performance and flow.
- Check the turbine oil in the oil chamber (ISO VG32, 1,890 ml) periodically as set out in the manual. If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
