The TSURUMI 50B2.4S is the 50 mm single-phase model in Tsurumi's B series of non-clog sewage pumps. It has a 50 mm (2-inch) discharge and a 0.4 kW 2-pole single-phase capacitor-start motor. The B series is Tsurumi's basic heavy-duty submersible sewage and wastewater pump line; its channel impeller is designed to minimise trouble from solids and fibrous matter in the pumped liquid. The 50B2.4S combines a grey cast-iron casing with a ductile-iron suction cover and double silicon-carbide mechanical seals, making it a good fit for low-flow sewage and wastewater duty in building sumps, collection pits and commercial premises.

Selection note: the 50B2.4S shares its performance curve with the three-phase 50B2.4. The difference is the power supply and configuration: the 50B2.4S is single-phase with capacitor start, a 5 m cable and a 25 kg dry weight, while the 50B2.4 is three-phase direct-on-line with a 6 m cable and a 23 kg dry weight. Choose the 50B2.4S where only single-phase power is available. For more head on single-phase power, consider the 50B2.75S (0.75 kW).

Key features

Performance

In Tsurumi's IA100 catalogue, the 50 Hz performance curve is labelled "50B2.4(S)", meaning the 50B2.4S and the three-phase 50B2.4 share the same curve. Tsurumi Europe lists the 50B2.4 at 9 m maximum head and 263 L/min (about 15.8 m³/h) maximum capacity. Maximum head is the head at near-zero flow, and maximum capacity is the end point of the curve (at about 2 m head). The two do not occur together: actual flow falls as total head (static head plus pipe friction loss) rises. Select the pump from the performance curve using your site's total head. For higher heads, consider the 50B2.75S (single-phase, approx. 15.2 m) or the 50B2.75H (three-phase, 15.2 m).

Float switches: for automatic level control through an external control panel. The MC-2 is a heavy-duty float switch with a shock absorber and selectable normally-open or normally-closed contacts, suited to liquids with suspended solids and scum; the MT-1 is an economy counterweighted float switch for filling or emptying duty.

Safety and installation

Electrical connection must be made by a registered electrical worker in line with local regulations. The pump must be properly earthed, with overload and earth-leakage protection.
Check that the supply voltage matches the nameplate before connecting.
After the built-in CTP trips, the motor may restart automatically once it cools. Always isolate the power before inspection or servicing.
Lift the pump by its handle or a lifting chain. Never lift it by the power cable.
Never let the cable end become submerged and never cut or damage the cable sheath; the anti-wicking cable entry is a safeguard only.
Keep the liquid at or above the minimum running level and avoid prolonged dry running.
The standard version is for sewage and wastewater up to 40 °C and is not seawater-resistant. Do not pump flammable, explosive or strongly corrosive liquids.
Never touch the pump or put hands near the suction while it is energised. Follow confined-space and toxic gas (such as hydrogen sulphide) precautions in sewage sumps; a guide rail fitting lets you hoist the pump for service without entering the sump.

Wear parts and routine checks

Check the oil in the oil chamber regularly and replace the turbine oil ISO VG32 (180 ml) as needed to protect the mechanical seals. If the oil is cloudy or contains water, have the shaft seals inspected promptly.
