Product Introduction

Krystol Mortar Admixture (KMA) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture designed for permanent waterproof protection of building base coats/plasters, masonry mortars, and concrete masonry units. It combats moisture and waterborne contaminants by reducing the permeability and absorbency of mortar.

KMA simplifies installation by eliminating the need for topical sealants and easily integrates into existing mix designs and application processes.

KMA provides superior waterproofing performance, reducing building maintenance and repair costs.

KMA contains Krystol Technology. When added to cementitious mortar or concrete masonry units, Krystol reacts chemically with water and unhydrated cement particles to form insoluble needle-like crystals that fill the pores and micro-cracks within the concrete, blocking the pathways for moisture and waterborne contaminants.

Typical Applications

Use KMA Mortar Admixture for waterproof protection of the following structures:

• Base coats and plaster mortars (including stucco and other thin-coat decorative mixes) on concrete masonry walls or other substrate layers
• Masonry mortars (e.g., mortar layers between masonry units)
• Concrete masonry units (e.g., precast waterproof blocks)

Performance

Application

Add KMA Mortar Admixture at 2% of the cementitious material weight. For every 40 kg (80 lb) bag of cement in the mortar mix, measure and add 1 liter (1 quart) of sealed KMA and mix thoroughly. Reduce the water content if necessary. KMA integrates with existing mortar mixes and application procedures. Proper curing is essential for KMA to achieve optimal material performance and waterproofing results.

Limitations

KMA Mortar Admixture is effective only on rigid structures. Its crack-healing capabilities and construction joint waterproofing performance cannot be guaranteed on structures with repeated movement. For specific projects, please consult with a Kryton sales representative.

Safety Precautions

This product is for professional use only. Please read the Material Safety Data Sheet (SDS) carefully before use. This product is corrosive when mixed with water or sweat. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, and avoid inhaling dust. Wear long-sleeved clothing, safety goggles, and impermeable gloves during application.

Packaging

Krystol Mortar Admixture is available in resealable 15 kg (33 lb) pails.

Shelf Life

Krystol Mortar Admixture has a shelf life of 3 years when stored in a dry, sealed area in its original unopened packaging. Once opened, if properly resealed, the product has a shelf life of 4 months.
