A quick pre-procurement check

Understand a WSD GA record in three steps

Confirm the product identity first, then its approval scope. A matching brand or appearance alone is not enough.
  1. 01

Match the GA number and model

Check the GA number, brand and complete model against the product. Related models in the same range are not automatically covered.

  2. 02

    Check size and intended use

One GA letter can cover several sizes or configurations. Match the water-supply system, size and fitting classification to the work.

  3. 03

    Review expiry and surveillance

Confirm that approval is not expired, suspended or removed, and re-open the official record before a formal submission or inspection.

What is General Acceptance?

A GA record is a key reference when checking plumbing-product compliance

Pipes and fittings used in Hong Kong inside-service and fire-service installations must meet Water Authority requirements. Accepted products receive a General Acceptance record; its official model, size, use, status and letter define the approval scope.

01

Product-specific

One GA number may contain several models, sizes or configurations.

02

Status can change

A record may be updated when approval expires, is suspended, reinstated or removed.

03

Official record prevails

JACO provides the search interface; WSD remains the authoritative source.

Frequently asked questions

GA water-fitting search questions

What is the difference between WELS and a “water paper” or GA record?

A “water paper” usually means a WSD General Acceptance (GA) record. It pre-approves a specific plumbing product against relevant statutory material standards and carries an acceptance status and expiry date. WELS indicates water consumption and water-efficiency grade so buyers can compare water-saving performance. They serve different purposes and do not replace each other; check the GA record and WELS registration separately when relevant.

Does one GA number approve every tap sold under the same brand?

No. General Acceptance normally applies to specified models, sizes, fitting classifications and uses. Check every exact product record, even within one brand or range.

Why does the same GA number appear in several results?

A GA letter can cover several models, diameters, sizes or configurations. This finder keeps those rows separate to avoid merging unlike specifications.

What is the difference between expired, suspended and removed?

Expired means the acceptance period has ended; suspended means acceptance is temporarily paused; removed means it has been withdrawn. Review the official details before use.

Can a JACO result be used directly for a formal plumbing submission?

This tool supports discovery and specification checks. It does not replace the WSD directory, the official GA letter or professional judgement. Verify the official record before submission.

Need help matching a model to a project specification?

Share the GA number, complete model, size and intended use, and JACO can help structure the procurement specification.
